Welcome to Hugshi
What is Hugshi?
Sure, I can help with that! Below is a complete, ready-to-drop-in explainer for the Hugshi Help / How It Works page. The tone assumes the playful-but-serious, casino-table aesthetic you have established, while remaining precise about mechanics so users do not misinterpret Hugshi as traditional gambling.
Hugshi is a prediction market platform for the Hug Time Awards. Think of it as a fun way to bet on outcomes
using play money (Hugcoins Ħ) with your friends. It also serves as a community hub where you can advocate for the movies you think deserve to win big at The Huggies.
How It Works
1. Your Hugcoins
You start with a balance of Hugcoins (Ħ). These are a fiat currency that you can use to place bets on different contenders in various award categories. You can see your current balance in the top right corner of the page. Users will receive an initial allocation of Hugcoins to get started, and additional Hugcoins will be distributed every week.
2. Categories & Contenders
Browse through different award categories on the home page. Each category has multiple contenders (nominees) that you can bet on. Click on a category to see all the contenders and their current odds.
3. Placing Bets
For each contender, you can buy YES or NO shares:
- YES shares - You think this contender will win (be nominated)
- NO shares - You think this contender will NOT win (be nominated)
The price of shares is determined by what other users are betting. The more people bet YES on a contender, the higher the YES price becomes (and the lower the NO price).
4. Market Odds
The odds show the implied probability based on all bets placed. For example, if YES shares cost Ħ0.70, the market thinks there's a 70% chance that contender will win.
5. Selling Shares
You can sell your shares at any time before a category is resolved. The price you receive depends on the current market odds. If more people start agreeing with your bet, you might be able to sell for a profit!
6. Resolution
When a category is resolved (the nominees are announced), winning shares pay out Ħ1.00 each, and losing shares become worthless. If you bet correctly, you make a profit!
7. House Fee
There's a small 2% fee on trades that goes to the house. This helps keep the markets balanced.
Tips for Success
- Diversify - Don't put all your Hugcoins on one bet
- Watch the odds - Buy when you think the market is wrong about a contender's chances
- Sell strategically - You don't have to hold until resolution; take profits when you can
- Stay informed - Keep up with the community feed for insights and news
The Grand Prize
The user with the most Hugcoins at the end of the season will be bestowed a special prize at the Hug Time Awards Ceremony in March.
Community Features
Hugshi also includes a community feed where you can:
- Share your thoughts about the markets
- Post images and updates
- Like and comment on other users' posts
- View other users' profiles and portfolios
Community Guidelines
- Be respectful. No harassment, bullying, threats, or personal attacks.
- Zero-tolerance policy for hate or discrimination. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, or other identity-based abuse is not allowed—jokes included.
- No sexual harassment or exploitation. No unwanted sexual content, sexualized remarks about real people, or any content involving minors.
- Follow the rules or lose access. Moderators may remove content, suspend accounts, or issue bans to protect the community.
Community Categories
In addition to official Hug Time Awards categories, users can create their own custom prediction markets! These community categories let you bet on anything related to the awards or the movies.
Creating Your Own Category
Any user can create a community category by proposing contenders and setting up a new market. Once created, all users can place bets just like official categories.
How Community Categories Work
- Vote mechanics - No betting, just vote on contenders for Ħ1 each!
- Community-driven - The category creator's name is displayed, so you know who proposed it
- Flexible topics - Create categories for anything: "Best Fight Scene", "Worst Movie," "Best First Feature," anything you can think of!
- Resolution - Community categories are resolved the night before the Hug Time Awards Ceremony on Saturday, March 14th
Community categories are a great way to celebrate the end of the year in movies beyond the official awards and engage with other users!
